What about creating less articles but making them original and high quality? This has more impact in terms of SEO, direct visitors, monetization, and backlink purposes anyway.

Taking shortcuts to your website content will be harmful in the long term and not really worth the short term gain (if there is any). You really want to get the attention of your site visitors and make them subscribers, fans or followers. This won't happen with low quality articles.

Original content just seems to be so cheap that it does not make a lot of sense to spin anymore. You also do not know if it is spun enough until it is too late and you have already tied all of your sites or links together with a nasty footprint.

Why wouldn't it make sense to go with a good quality spin? Even if you have a new unique article written for $5, the quality will most likely be poor and you can only use it once. Get a good quality article spun and you can potentially use it as many times as you want.
