Hi All,
Here's the background. I have a website that was penalised by Google, so I created a new website on a new domain. The new website is ranking on page 1 for my main keyword but one of the internal pages from the old site is ranking hire. I want to redirect visitors from the penalised domain to my new site but don't want to damage the ranking of the new site. What can I do?

Thanks,
Seamy

you can use page redirection 301 or canonical.. 301 means the old page is existing but you cannot visit the page.. canonical is for the search engine to redirect its traffic, PR, and rank but the page the page is visible to search engine..

There's a penalty on the old domain. I don't want any link juice, I just want visitors redirected. Ideally I want Google to be unaware of the redirect but I don't know if this will be possible

It sounds like your old site was lacking anchor text diversity, since it dropped for the main keyword but still has internal pages ranking. Did you consider making changes to the site before creating the new one?

Now you have 2 separate sites in the same niche when you could of had an older, larger site with more authority.

Regarding your question, if you redirect it to your new site, all those backlinks will now also point to the new site. Therefore, if your old site lacked anchor text diversity, this may hurt your new site as well, at least for that keyword.

What if I used a jquery pop-up window with a large banner, a we've moved message and a nofollow link to my new site. Would this work?
