Deleting backlinks

My sites were hit by penguin. I think one of the factors is low quality backlinks. How to get rid of them? I used some method (I forgot the name) on google webmaster tools but it still seems to be counting.

    Did you try the disavow links tool in Google? I have heard that some people have had success with that. It does take a while for them to process requests though and this does not prevent other search engines from using the links against you.

      Thanks but I already did that. Site has good ranking other SEs already. But its all about google.

    Seriously you should focus on improving your site, improving and adding more content and building new valuable links as well as increasing your social exposure. This will provide more long term benefit than reacting to Google's every whim.

      If you just start focusing on building high quality backlinks you should build back rankings over time.

      The idea to disavow the backlinks might help too, I've heard of that before.
