Hello,

I have been lurking around the expireddomains.net to look for "aged" domain with preferably some backlinks on it.

Now, how much value has domain if it's

1) registered in 1998-2004, but it's deleted and it has no backlinks
2) registered in 2005, and has 20-30 backlinks

Is it better to have completely new domain, has it SOME worth in terms of ranking at all?

Naturally, both 1st & 2nd will have good reputation due to their age,

But, buying them have equal risk involved, because you dont come to know if it has been penalized/banned by any search engines.

I would take some time to investigate the domain before i buy it.

Yeah you can find some good domains with PR on that website (sometimes). I usually look for the deleted because of the price and really don't like NameJet backorder.

It isn't really that hard to build backlinks and get page rank for new domains, unless you are trying to turn around and sell that domain for quick cash, then you might want to get one that is established already.

Use a completely new domain. Domain age by itself is a relatively meaningless metric. 1) has no links so forget it. 2) only has 20-30. You can build that yourself in no time.

The advantage of a new domain is it doesn't have any negative karma associated with it.

A dropped domain has no value unless the content you build is similar to what is was used to be.

It's hard to say for sure but I believe those backlink would carry NO value.

Also, if buying domains for their previous backlinks you may need to recreate the old site structure (or create 301 redirect) to ensure the inner page backlinks are captured.

Ie; if you have backlinks pointing to http://olddomain.com/category9/page5 and you don't have this exact URL in your websit ethose backlinks would not count.

All of that said, I am not sure how much benefit (if any) buying an old domain for backlinks would have due to them not being relevant and non-existent for some time.

Ie; any high quality links from authority websites would most likely get removed as soon as they are not valid, leaving you only with low quality, un-manned links.

I would avoid buying a domain that has been completely de-indexed by Google. It is rather unpredictable as to what may or may not happen.

Aged domains are ALWAYS better then new domains, unless they are banned from Google or have been dropped, if that is not the case then you should buy both

Age only matters when a website had backlinks built over many years with content added occasionally. Your domain would have to relate to your niche for it to even matter. Personally, I wouldn't bother.

There is lot of ground work needs to be do before you buy the old aged domains as we are not aware whether they are penalized or deindexed by Google. Its better to go for new domain or else choose the few websites which are two to three years old but quality backlinks.
