Websites and SEO are long term things.

Hey guys, just figured i'd share something that took me awhile to learn.

This is something that I feel like will especially help the new guys on here. I think it's something that most of the "older" guys online already know.

Don't buy into the WSO Hype, generally if you come out with a website, it'll take it some time to start making a reasonable profit. What I see a lot of times is when newer guys make a site, work on it for a week, and then give up.

Come on guys? Stick with it for the long term! Give it a few months!

It's the same thing with SEO. Some guys start to try to rank, and after a week get tired, or annoyed, and stop. They claim that they didn't see results.

While you can see results within a weeks time, generally when I plan to do SEO I set 2 week goals, 1 month goals, and 3 month goals. That way I can really measure my results. I can see if i'm starting to make progress or not.

Now of course it depends on your goals too, are you going for long tail keywords? Short tail? Those will go into your ranking time as well.

But pretty much what i'm trying to say is, take it all long term. Don't be afraid to invest in your website! The best part about online marketing is that once you get things rolling they keep on going! I still make money from sites I made 5 years ago! I haven't touched them, obviously I don't make as much as I used to from them, but they still make me a profit.

So keep with it, set some long term goals. That's probably the hardest thing when starting out, after 2 weeks you don't see results so you jump on the newest thing.

Don't do it, stick to what you got going for you

Hope that this helps somebody, i've been thinking about this for the past few weeks.

I'm curious. How long does it take for you to see real results in today's Penguin/Panda world? I'm wondering if there is really any point in concentrating only on SEO to get anywhere, or if one needs to pursue PPC, and other paid sources of traffic.

Usually I am indexed within the first two days.

Ranking somewhere for a keyword within a week.

And at the top by month three but completely varies by the keyword. A lot of times I can hit the top within month one if it's not a super competitive keyword. Sometimes in even less time.
