Hey guys total noon questions here i hope you dont mind helping out.. Ok so is it true that the more backlinks we have count towards coming up on top of google? if so is article submission still the quickest way to get many links at once? Is the suggested way then to just spend time writing decent articles?

If the objective is to come up on front of the competition and this is the only then it willl prove very difficult when the have over 700 thousand backlinks.

One other questions as far as back links. Lets pretend i sell cheese and the backlinks are hyper text like this. cheese for sale which is going to cheeseforsale.com well to make 700 thousand backlinks does every back link have to be cheese for sale linking back to my site? or can it be variations of keywords linking back to the same URL?

PS what is regarded the no.1 seo technique for getting no.1 on google past your competition.

Thank you guys!

700k backlinks is a huge number, you want to go for something much much lower. You are correct about backlinks. The more of them you build, the higher you will rank. Quality is always preferred over quantity. Diversifying them is the key. Make it look natural, which comes to your question about anchor text.

For your example, you want to vary the anchor text such as:

    cheese sale
    cheese for sale
    cheese for sale website
    buy cheese
    buy cheese online
    cheese for sale online
    great cheese website
click here to go to a cheese website to buy cheese

and so on. Think of the things people may type when linking to your website. The #1 key to ranking to #1 on google is obviously quality backlinks. How to get them is what this entire forum is about.

Not sure commercial anchor text is a good thing these days but if your brand name is cheese for sale then it makes the job abit harder. Vary your anchors with

    view here
    naked url's
    cheese
    cheese for sale
    and more naked url's

Ding! Ding! Ding! You are correct!!!

The answer would be lots of naked URL's - it throws google totally off and pushes your site up in the serps.

You need a few quality links, not tons of links. A site naturally don't get tons of links.

      Agree and disagree.

Agree, because quality is better than quantity. Trying to get "as many links as possible" is the absolutely the wrong way to go about it.

Disagree, because plenty of sites, pages, news stories, articles, videos, etc, go viral and get an enormous amount of links in a short amount of time. But it's natural. As opposed to manually creating a ton of links.

I agree. If you get more than a few backlinks, you'll fall out of the SERPs. That's why websites like SEOmoz that rank on the first page for terms like "SEO" have literally millions of backlinks. I'm surprised Google hasn't penalized them yet, since backlinks are unnatural.

Google loves backlinks. Backlinks are literally the foundation, the walls, and the ceiling of the Google search engine. They're easily the most vital component.

You need to vary your anchor text a lot. Your main keyword should only be at the very most 20% of your total backlink profile- the rest should be naked URL's, generic words like "here" and "Read More," and keyword variations.

Make sure your links are relevant and don't over use the same anchor text.

The anchor text needs to be varied things relating to your website and general terms as well.

Also, don't forget to vary where your links come from such as, Web 2.0's, blog comments, articles, social media, social bookmarks, forums etc.

A better measurement of whether a link portfolio is natural or unnatural is LIKE/LINK ratio, or social counts vs backlink counts. If a page gets a lot of backlinks, it should get a lot of likes, sharing from Facebook, Twitter and Facebook too. It is definitely not natural if a page gets links from thousands of unique domains, but only a few social likes or sharing. The soemoz page has about few thousands of backlinks and social counts respectively . It's more natural than most of competing pages.

Thanks guys some great info. Well for those of you asking why 700K well thats the amounts of back links my main competitor has.. I believe they mostly use article spinning and submission. And I know they are profiting largely in this market.

I assumed the back links should be whatever the most popular keyword search is. So from your guys response. and hyperlinked text pointing to same website counts as the same for google?

What are LSI words? Thanks guys!!

I'll have to guess that it may be a fairly tough site to beat with 700k backlinks. Especially if it's aged and has been holding its rankings for awhile.

Yea this is what i suspect. the only thing we have an advantage of a much better product. I beleive if i can get 20% of their traffic, the rest will follow by word of mouth. The product is indeed that good. The only reason i invested in this type of business.

Also, when building backlinks, it is very important to Vary your Anchor text. Do Not use the same anchor text for hundreds or thosands of backlinks. Google will view this as spam and your site will drop in the rankings as a result. Use LSI words, generic keywords, the naked url, as well as your targeted keywords when building backlinks. Just remember to balance them out.
Great info julia thank you, can you speak a little about LSI words? And what exactly are pr0-pr1 backlinks. Does what your saying still stand if just getting in front of the competition on google is half the battle? Thank you

As far as general SEO is concern, backlinks are not that powerful like before. There are now some other schemes of driving good quality links to your website. And quantity is not the key for having a good link profile.

For hypertext, using different anchor text is advisable just like others said. Using generic keywords is also good, but for the most part, use words/phrase that are relevant to the website that you are promoting.

My advice to you is do not be intimidated by backlink numbers, If your main competitor has 700k spammy backlinks and you have only 50 relevant authority backlinks you can still beat them, especially if you grow your social media presence.

Locating relevant backlinks, or creating stellar content that generates quality inbound links takes time and expertise. If you don't have the time consider hiring a creative content marketing company or a reliable freelancer to help you obtain relevant/one way links.

Consider not building any links to your site until you are familiar with the Google Penguin algorithm. Too many "Cheese for Sale" links in your backlink profile, may make your marketing campaign smell like stale gorgonzola

    I hope this helps!

To echo the sentiments, quality NOT quantity. I have plenty of sites that outrank the competition and my sites have less than 50 backlinks.

I like to use a handful of high PR, authoritative sites that Google loves and is constantly crawling for content.

With less competitive keywords, I have noticed a jump in SERPs with just one PR 7 backlink.

To not overly optimized your keywords, you must use long tail keywords such "Click here", "Go visit this page", "Go here", "Click here for more info", "Read our review", "Click here for more details" and etc.

Sure, right here @ the Warrior Forum.

Wow, this is a pretty loaded question.

    1) is it true the more backlinks count towards getting to top?
search engines are built on two concepts.. Importance and relevance. You need your links pointing back to your site to be highly related to your site, and the higher authority website linking to yours, the better. One PR 9, highly related link to your site is probably worth about 10 million pr 0 unrelated (just a geusstemate)

    2) Could prove difficult with 700k links?
Yes, that is typically an authority site. But, you can target less competitive keywords. You should do a ton of studying up on keyword research.

    3) The specific text linking back to your site in the hyperlink is called "anchor text". Old days you could use little to no variation in your anchor text. Now a days you need to really vary your anchor. What I typically do is 20% of my main keyword, 30-40% LSI keywords (look it up), and then general text- click here, click this, check out the site, etc...

Hope this helps answer some things. Good luck, and I would definitely suggest a few SEO books/courses.. They can teach you a ton real quickly.

    Backlinks don't mean everything.

But they do mean a lot. More backlinks does not always equal higher rankings, you need to get "good" backlinks. In other words, backlinks that google thinks matter.

Then you need to vary your anchor text, just like Anoosh says.

    Then you profit.
