PPC is where I started making money online 10 years ago. When Google suspended my Adwords account I built some sites and began making some money thru organic search. Now that's gotten derailed for the most part, I am trying to start up PPC marketing again.

In your opinion has PPC marketing gotten too costly for the average marketer and is just viable for the big spenders? Is paid advertising now just about PPV and media ads? Is list building the only way to make some decent money online with a lower cost doing business?

Thanks.

I have friend who still does very well at ppc. Ofcourse, he is pretty advanced guy, using cloakers here and there, getting banned after every week and so, but making around 50k per month just with Adwords...

You should try it for sure and mix it with media buys. Keep in mind that you need to test a lot and spend some money before you find the "winning" campaign.

If you want to do PPC you have to get clever. Most people attack it head on, the specific keywords and all the rest. For affiliate marketing - it's pretty well unaffordable.

However if you start asking the questions your target audience use, and using those as keywords, your competition will be much less. So too will the cost. The thing is that you have to use your imagination and use no small amount of insight to do this - most people out there work to a system. If you have a vivid imagination and can empathize with your customer's frustrations, PPC is fantastic fun - and lucrative.

Have you tried PPV - pay per view? I haven't done any, did think about it, but thought it cheesy. There is still quite some mileage in this, especially if you are an affiliate.

PPC is hard. It's not an easy game anymore. It has become very costly; comparing it to the 2005 levels. Of course I say this as we just put $1,000 down on an Adwords campaign.. lol.

The offer must be very good. I use it to promote local businesses who pay big commissions for each new client. This is very profitable for me, but volume isn't like it could be globally. The campaigns are very targeted and local.

The key is a high-paying, high converting offer and getting the right traffic. I think the best opportunities are establishing your own referral deals with local businesses and other businesses who serve a targeted audience and are willing to pay big commissions for new business.

If you set up your own referral arrangements and you can use the business' logo (as I do), you don't need to send visitors to yet another site. Just place the tel. number and contact form on your site, which is what Adwords likes ... bridge pages are hard to avoid with affiliate marketing and still earn good returns.

An $1000 account with adwords doesn't go par these days as a general comment. I mean the $ rack up quickly.

I wouldn't say it's "hard," as long as you know what you're doing before you jump in. I do OK with PPC targeting low competition, buyer phrases. Nothing earth shattering since the traffic isn't huge. But definitely enough to make it worth my while.
