Re-using Good Backlinks

Hi All,

If you have a domain that has been penalized for whatever reason, can you point all the good links to that website at your new domain? I have a lot of web2.0s and articles I have put a lot of time and effort into which I still have control of and would like to redirect the links.

Thanks,
Seamy

I think you've discovered the downside of backlinking. If someone wants a backlink changed, you are going to have to ask the webmaster to do it, aren't you? Surely this is going to take a lot more time than just putting up new links.

So get clever. You know which are good backlinks, which are worth real money to you - and not just a source of link-juice. Focus on them, because you can. That is when your skills are worth real money.

Oh, and spread your traffic out. If you have PPC traffic from that site too, any penalization may dent your profits, it won't trash them.

If you have full control of the backlink sources (e.g., web 2.0 accounts), then you should be OK with changing the links to point to your new domain. Ideally I'd add some new content (from which to link to the new domain) to those web 2.0's as well, but that's up to you.

Do you know the reason for being penalized? The backlinks can't have been that good if you got if it was down to your link profile

EMD penalty. I abandoned the domain.

I've seen again and again that there is no EMD penalty - rather, they took away the EMD boost.

Can anyone with more experience than me corroborate this?

I'm still ranking EMDs no problem.

As Helkat said, the boost for EMD's was taken away.

I have an EMD that made numerous sales during christmas time and others that are needing a little more back linking and are rising in the serps. Why throw all that work away, when just a little more effort can have their keywords on page one?

To answer your question, yes, you have control over the web2.0, you can go in and change the link, add another link, etc.

For the ones that think that an EMD domain doesn't rank anymore check our this one

Its for 2 main keywords very high Ataques de panico » Ataques de Ansiedad . Also a domain that has been penalized , if you have google webmaster tools then you should not worry because of the new link disavow tool.

I would say that you'll probably have more success working on your site, than changing the backlinks.

EMD seems to be working just fine still.

I guess, you can use the backlinks. Just check out if they are really useful, before using them.

You can't. What you would do is buy an aged domain (with PR) and transfer all that link juice to your site using a 301 redirect.

This is a great SEO strategy although too many redirects will get you canned by Google. I normally stick to 1 or 2.

But you have to be sure that you were NOT banned because of any backlink from those web2.0 websites (which can happen really rare). By the way, you should update NOT only the backlink, but also it would be good to update the CONTENT too (at least rewrite about 4-6 sentences of your content) and everything will be OK!
