Everything starts with the Google Keyword Tool.

If you're new, its in your interest to get as good with that tool as you possibly can.

Maybe even spend several months with it. The GKT really is a landmark tool -- totally changed content-creation as we knew it.

To get a more accurate assessment of CPC make use of the 'Contextual Targeting Tool' in GKT. You'll find the link near the top left of the page once you're at the GKT home page.

I use ubersugest for my keywords search, and it is very simple and easy to use. By using this service, you can find which one have strong competitor, and which one have less competitor. You can expand a keyword into more specific keywords, which is usually quite long. Well, the longer the better, smart people will search something with specific keywords. Happy keywords hunting.

If you are willing to spend, I think you should get Market Samurai. I have used the trial version and I must say that it's really good. Also, whenever I see threads like this, lots of people always recommend Market Samurai, so that says a lot about the tool.

  Unfortunately Google Keyword Tool won`t give any information about the serp competition for the given keyword.
  For this you should either use another keywordtool (see above) or check the competition with free tools like seoquake.

  I use long tail pro, you can find lots of keywords and do research on the top 10 domains ranking for the keyword. It works very well for me.

Forget about Market Samurai.

That software died a long time ago.

Just stick with the GKT

  This 2 software have great abbility to find profitable keyword, hidden niche and analyze google competition and another option that KE v2.0 have is Google adwords machine with who I find profitable google adwords campaign, legaly steal profitable keywords they use and can see advertisers landing pages.

I think when you are starting out, you are best off with the free tools. Google keyword tool is what every other tool seems to read from, so you might as well use that one. Remember to check the box that says exact search - I didn't realise that when I started.

If you use Firefox as your browser you can download SEOquake, then you can see how many backlinks competing pages have. You can check the page rank of the different pages, although Google sets less store by PR these days.

It doesn't matter which Keyword tool you purchase. They ALL piggy back off the Google Adwords Keyword Tool....which begs the question -why pay for something that's free in the first place?
