With All The Google Changes Does Seo Plugins Work

I just finished building a site using wordpress and woothemes. When I use to build them they use to have where you can put title, description, and keywords for the site. Now they don't and I am wondering if I should download a wordpress plugin to do that for me? Do people still use SEO plugins on their sites? Is it still important?

    SEO plugins have nothing to do with latest Google updates. SEO plugins are basically to manage your SEO elements easily and if a user is not technically sound, even he can use it to manage his website's SEO elements like page title, desctiption, canonical tag etc. Be assured that if you are not doing anything spammy for your website like duplicate content, poor backlinks creation, there would be no impact on your website with these latest changes.

    Depends on the user. You can over optimize SEO plugins. I've seen guys use the All in One SEO and Yoast plugins together, creating duplicate sets of tags, descriptions etc.

    Google will spank you for this.

      Google doesn't care about multiple description (or whatever) tags, they'll only display a single SERP description.

      Something like multiple description tags isn't a Google spank, that's a web page that is created by someone that's clueless about HTML expecting Google to read their mind. Easily corrected by a webmaster that knows what they're doing (basic HTML).

        If I remember correctly, Woo Themes removed their SEO tool from some of their themes and have endorsed the Yoast plugin.

        In any case, there's nothing inherently wrong with using an SEO plugin. All they do is give you control over the meta info displayed on your page.
