Ad placement for mobile sites

The other day I was analyzing my stats and noticed that now almost 50% of my site traffic are from mobile devices. I'm thinking of making a mobile version of my sites, so I have 2 questions:

1. Is there a strategy for ad placements on a mobile site? Since the available space is a lot smaller does it matter where you place the ads? I mean its a vertical site pretty much so what strategies could there be besides above text, below text and in between text?

2. I'm making decent money already without a mobile version of my site, would adding a mobile version actually help increase my earnings?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have!

Try a fixed Ad position at the very top of the page, example, single line of a text Ad.

Thanks! From what I have read from google adsense documentation since all of my mobile traffic is from smart phones I can use the standard ads for the mobile site. Trying to figure out what the best resolution to use ads for width wise is.

Thanks! Yes I have been reading that. What is confusing to me is on a mobile site for older phones they only allow 1 mobile ad per page but the normal 3 ads for newer phones. They make it sound like I would need 2 versions of a mobile site because I dont want to limit myself to 1 mobile ad per page for newer phones. Or I guess I can just make a executive decision to only make a mobile site geared for newer phones.
