Search engines generally don't care what platform you use, they judge each page based on the contents and backlinks, There is no preference for any platform so it is not relevant.

That is completely false. The search engines crawl authority sites more frequently than new sites. A Squidoo lens will get into the SERPs before a page on a new site, however, because of the competition it will also not have the longevity of a page that's on your site. This is why "authority sites" are used mainly for link building but not as the "money page." Use the authority site to simply post a link to your site (amidst a quality review or other form of information, of course), that way you have a link that the search engines will quickly pick up and add to your PR. You will always benefit from having that link even when another lens overtakes your lens. Gathering enough authority backlinks will take time, but it will give your site longevity and as lenses come and go from the SERPs your site will remain strong.

My lenses rank much higher, dang it.
Must be the power of squidoo behind it
or something. Maybe because you can choose
your content, lens title, etc. much more readily
than one can on a regular website.

I asked a similar question in another thread, but
did not get an answer yet, I believe.

I asked how does squidoo optimization compare
    to a regular website optimization.

      Hi Paul,

You have total control of everything on your own website while Squidoo has limits. So if there is an advantage for SEO it would be with your own website.

With Squidoo you are allowed to post information on someone else's website which they control. The advantages are that you don't have to register a domain name or pay for hosting or even know how to code HTML. This makes it easy for someone who is not technically astute.

The disadvantage is that you have no control except that which they choose to grant you. They can cancel your account at anytime for any reason or force restrictions on you that you may not be happy about.

None of these things give you any advantage as far as SEO goes.

I just thought since Squidoo has a high PR, it makes your lens rank higher a lot easier.

This was my understanding as well. An even better approach is to create both a squidoo lens and website and link the squidoo to your website using your chosen keyword as an anchor text. That way you'll get a link from a high PR site.

Squidoo is much easier as google loves it! squidoo, hubpages, ezine-- they have high PR. However i will suggest you create backlinks to them and your site which is good for SERPS

Yeah, I created backlinks to some of my articles and it was sandboxed by Google. I only did about 15 backlinks. Does anyone know why that happened?

Squidoo pages will probably rank higher than the sub pages of your site but will not be able to rank higher than your index page if it is optimised properly.

I created three lenses on Squidoo but have had zero luck with them. I linked back to my website but it did nothing as far as ranking, and I also have practically zero views of my lenses. Granted I may be doing something wrong because some people seem to have great success with it. It just didn't work out for me as I'd hoped. Too much work for too little return.

The trick is to find a niche that will get searched.
Anticipate the next big movie, star, singer, etc.
Even a popular topic already that will stay steady.
Make a lens, optimize it the way squidoo says via the health link
    Add your links to it.
Digg it, stumble it, post it on a blog, put it in your sig here,
blast it on linkreferral. If it is done right, it will shoot to the
    top of searches.
Sometimes you strike out, sometimes you hit a home run.

My experience is, with proper on-page optimization you can get to the top as easily as your squidoo lens.
