  To share my experience, yes, an EMD still matters, and yes, it matters a little less than earlier (but it's far from dead, contrary to any belief).

Well i did this question becouse i purchase a domain 8 days ago and it was a EMD domain and i rank 1 million 300 pages, at this moment im on line 4 of the first page on google, So i want to buy other EMD domain but this one haves 10 million competitors on google but haves a lot more searches each month.

It wasn't Penguin but the bonus that EMD's used to give a site are definitely reduced. My view is that if there are EMD's available then most likely the search term is fairly low competition. Like supereek already pointed out the results the term gets in quotes in Google is basically useless in gauging the competitiveness of a keyword.

Google "will there" and you see 20 million results but I bet not one site is optimized for this term.

Generally true until a few months ago. You see a ton load of those domains now expiring because they no longer give the extra boost they used to.

10 million results doesnt mean 10 million sites actually ranking for that keyword. You are looking at the wrong statistcs. Try downloading and analyzing your keywords with software like Traffic Travis or simply use the google adwords tool (dont forget to use it with only "exact" selected)

Well, EMD still works if you are doing your work with quality, there is no doubt of this, in EMD update, only those sites were penalized which were not quality sites.

I have heard that the competition level shown there in adwords is based on advertisers competition. Not the competition of ranking among website. From where can I get the accurate competition data?

Supereek is correct. The number of results can have no bearing on the competition for a particular phrase. It only describes the number of pages that have the searched term or phrase. Most of these results may not even be optimized for the term or phrase.

The best way to gauge competition is to analyze the results on the first page of the search engine's results. If the first page results have high PR, a large number of (high quality) backlinks, and are on-page optimized for the target keyword, then the term will be harder to rank for.

There are a number of tools that can do this analysis, but it is always best to understand the underlying ranking parameters before trusting a piece of software, because they are often times wrong (especially Traffic Travis - based on my use of the tool last year. This may have changed).

SerpIQ and SEOmoz are good, but pricey online tools for analyzing SERP competition.

It is very simple.

Where ever your goal to reach on google for your keyword is that is where you research!

For example if your aim is the first page or 2nd spot. You look at the 1st page or 2nd spot and using tools listed you see how hard it would be to get yourself ranked in those locations.

Usually if it is an authority site and has a high PR you should pass onto another keyword.

Yes emd's still do matter. Maybe not as much as before but it is just one thing out of many that matters.

Number of competing pages means nothing. It is the strength of your competition that matters most. Use seomoz to determine your competitors strength

EDM or non EDM are all the same.
Google does not hate EDM except if your strategy or SEO expert is quake.
The EDM update only gave equal ranking power to EDM and Non EDM.

Ranking on the first page of the search engine with 10 million result using EDM
is very possible. The time frame is what will differ depending on the type of
back link and competition of keyword chosen.
