    Link wheels worked in the past, but nowadays it's no longer worth the the effort/money building link wheels, because they don't do much to improve yuor rankings.

    Why not use Link Pyramid rather than link wheel. In 2013 it is much more effective in improving your keyword rank.

    What is more link wheel can easily be detected by Google bot, if it is a Closed one, and Open ones aren't that effective these days. Another thing link wheel does not have tier 2, it only have tier 1 and all of them are made by web 2.0 properties.

    Link Pyramid
    On the other hand Link pyramid is much stronger link building technique and Google hardly gets its footprints. Here we will find the concept of tier 1, tier 2 and sometimes tier 3 backlink also. Its much like physical pyramid structure.
