Google cache question?

I have a site that was penalised last year and although it was making maybe £200 a month I haven't bothered doing anything with it until recently.
I deleted the static home page and instead it now shows recent posts but when looking at Googles latest cache of the home page which is maybe a week ago it still shows the old page and it's from May 2012?
I'm not sure or really have no ideas why but it would be interesting to know.
