Lots of backlinks from the same forum

Hello,

I was checking the #1 on Google for backlinks....and he has a lot!
Only about 90% of them are from the same forum. Does that count as one link, or do I have a BIG challenge?
The links are from different topics.

    Google ranks web-PAGES, not sites. Every individual page has a PR vote.

    So, it's a good thing but to make most out of it, vary your anchor keywords if possible on those pages.

    You said that it killed your rankings? Does it mean that you disappeared from the no.1 page of google or was your website being blacklisted?

    You should try to vary the forums that you get links from but so long as you are commenting on different threads in the same forum, it should still improve your rankings so I think you will have quite a difficult task to overhaul the guy at the top.
