Okay, I think I found a good keyword. It has 2,400 searches/month. Only 288 results, (without quotes.) I made a simple little adsense site about 4 days ago, and it's already showing up at number 12 on the first page of the search results! I haven't made a dime yet, but it's only a matter of time, right?

I haven't submitted a single backlink or article yet, even. I am using FirePow, and some SEO on the site.

So, am I doing this right? This is really my first attempt at finding a good niche.

You want to make sure you are getting a lot of traffic if you are hoping to do an adsense site.

    Hi AmyKay,

The standard SERP has only 10 natural listings per page, so at #12 most folks will find you on page 2 not page 1.

Your meta description tag will usually be the text snippet displayed in your natural listing, so make sure that you have compelling text that will encourage click through.

Keep in mind that your page is likely benefiting from QDF and likely will need more backlinks and time before it can maintain it's ranking. Keep building pages on the same topic, link to them where appropriate and you will gradually build up steady traffic. That targeted traffic is what you need to earn from AdSense.

    Good Luck

I got rid of the adsense this evening, and put up relevant Amazon products.

That makes sense that the site is just new, and ranking high. I set up several backlinks this evening, as well, and will continue to do so.

    Thanks, all!

With that fewer competing sites, I doubt you need very many links at all to achieve a page one number one listing. Well done for finding the keyword!
