Is it worth it to submit your site to yahoo directory?

Yahoo! Directory

The cost is $300 per year and I'm not clear on what benefits one could gain by doing this.

Anybody have any knowledge on this?

  • Ertgy,

I have seen a lot of debate on this around the web. The majority of things that I read say that any potential benefits are not worth the cost. With all the different tactics to rank a website these days, you would be better off spending money on something else besides the directory.

    Here are some other opinions,

The question of whether a Yahoo Directory listing is a good value comes up quite frequently on these forums. The responses tend to be varied simply because no one knows for sure what impact the link has on rankings.

I purchase the listing for my large authority websites in the hopes of building some trust with Google. My thinking is that most fly by night churn and burn websites won't bother with such a pricey listing. On my large earners, I also have business.com and BOTW listings.

I can't honestly say I saw a SERP increase with these links or if they have made my websites more resilient, but I pay the annual fees so long as these sites are pulling in cash.

From a SERP improvement perspective, I think you would get much more bang for your buck if you bought one or more high PR backlinks (or possibly a high PR domain).

My recommendation is to forgo purchasing the Yahoo Directory listing on forays into new niches/keywords and first determine if there is any money to be made with in that niche. If the website turns out to be profitable you can buy the link later or build a second website and purchase the link. If you are buying it for a small website, your money can be better spent elsewhere.

I used to buy Yahoo directory listings but stopped about a year ago. I just don't think it's worth it any longer. You can spend that $300 per year in other ways that will be more effective.
