Spot Fake PR and don't be scammed

I have read quite a bit on here about how to spot fake PR but I haven't seen anyone add this one bit of info so hopefully it will help people not get scammed into these PR6+ links that are 100% worthless.

Use the WayBackMachine at Internet Archive: Wayback Machine. For those not familiar with the Internet Archive, it caches websites periodically so you can see what sites looked like from the past. It is an easy way to see when sites have been redirected with a 302 and to what site it was directed at. Look at a site's history and if 3 or 4 months before the site was being redirected to a high PR site, you know for sure that the PR is fake. Don't buy into the DA (this means NOTHING to Google) or the thousands of spammy backlinks pointing to a site that are shown in AREFs or similar tools.

The WayBackMachine does not archive every site, but it archives enough to help you from being scammed.

Also, use common sense. There isn't a webmaster in the world that has a legit PR 8 that sells links.

Sure there is. There's PR9 sites selling links. They just aren't cheap.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

I always tell people that for a reason, that way they won't fall into buying fake PR backlinks.

Depends on what you call cheap. I have seen PR9 sitewides go for as little as 400 USD a month w/ less than 20 OBLs. Legit site. Low end PR7s for 75 USD (lots of OBLs) and PR8s for 150 USD.

I highly doubt they are legit PR 7's, 8's, and especially 9's.

Indeed and make sure you check the back links in Spyglass.

Ahrefs, Majestic and SEOmoz are pretty damn slow with updating their results so never depend only on them.

Wow, you sure about this? I've always thought ahrefs > spyglass in terms of update speed.

Oh I didn't compare it to Spyglass, it's just that Spyglass is able to check if the links are still live or not while Ahrefs or one of the others doesn't have that function/ability.

you can also check the domain here: View HTTP Request and Response Header

to see if it's currently being redirected to falsify PR
