Is it bad to change website keywords?

There shouldn't be a problem with that as long the relevancy is there, that the difference isn't huge like total industry cross-overs. However, if you are optimizing your website for organic traffic, getting ranked for these "seasonal" keywords will be a problem. I guess what I am saying is that while its not a problem with Google, I think the actual SEO process wont be effective if you keep changing keywords because that would imply content, url, and linking changes.

If you're doing seasonal keywords, pick some number of keywords for each season (you pick the number). Develop/improve content and links for keywords while they're in season. No matter what, your site will always have keywords in season.

Also, it'd be smart to modify your front page as your seasons change. In this way, you can make it easier to find in season pages and you can put out of season pages in the dugout until they're in season again.

I think for adsense and PPC, its not really a problem, you would just have to point them to the right season pages or homepage, however for Organic SEO, there is a slight problem. I am thinking a great idea may be to have many pages , 1 page per season and lay some Seo work on all of them. You will surely need dedicated pages for each holiday ( sounds weird I know ), your homepage however will have to highly dynamic so I wouldn't focus the seo much there,only adsense and PPC. For organic seo I will have to kinda be prepared all year round. I would prioritize those those holidays that have a lower competitive index then work slowly for the more heavy ones. It will take time for sure.

I haven`t done a keyword research here but y`know if the competition index isn`t too bad for these seasonal keywords, there is a slight chance that trying to rank for common word/s terms relevant to your business, like " Enjoy Your Holidays" ( just a suggestion ).. could really help pass some seo juices to your seasonal pages.

If you have seasonal keywords, simply build multiple pages for all the seasons your targeting.

You need to keep the out of season pages indexed so they rank before the season actually starts. SEO isn't usually a build the page today & rank the page tomorrow, it usually takes time to rank a page, especially If the seasonal keyword is competitive (ex: halloween costumes).

This might sound crazy but even seasonal keywords will get searched all year. I still get a few straggler searches for Christmas + keyword in Feb./March.

Yes, changing/ replacing the keywords can affect keywords ranking. I would suggest not to remove the older keywords rather add pages for the new keywords. It will not only help to have more content but also help in improving the ranking (retaining the old keywords ranking. A win-win proposition for you.

I guess what I'm also saying is that I want christmas adsense ads to run in winter season pages and maybe spring break or easter adsense ads to run in spring season pages while still not getting seo gigged by google. Does that make sense? And yes, it would be relevent to my holidays website.

What yukon said. Build out pages for all seasons & leave them up. Could you imagine going in each season and adding new title tags, H1's - H3's, inter-page linking etc.? That would be a mess.

Google won't frown at you, since your new keywords are in line with the site's content.

Changing keyword would take time in indexing then it would show new keyword, ranking would also be affected, whether it is improved or decreased based on your keyword..

I think there is no impact when you change keywords as long as your content/title/heading is in the same style with any seasons.
