I was on Google first page for lot of keywords till Jan 17th. On Jan 17th Google updated its algorithm and my main keywords have lost the rankings.

After doing research it came to my notice that they are used most of times in anchor text when making backlinks.

Also lot of backlinks are from article websites which were working great last year for backlinks but this year not a good choice.

Do you advice to find all this bad backlinks and remove them manually or else make backlinks for other keywords so they get mixed and look natural or else make good backlinks now so they get mix with high page rank backlinks and give better optimization.

I think wasting time to remove backlinks is not constructive.

Also one researcher told me removing backlinks give negative effect.

Let me know what you have done for your website and if it is worth to remove bad backlinks

Dealt with this a few times recently. Had the manpower to get a lot of the really crappy links removed from the linking sites without using disavow. You should know that unless you actually got a penalty the links were probably just devalued and thats why you dropped. Doesn't hurt to ditch them though I am wary of disavow. Steady manual removal and all the while building good links to offset. The sites I worked on bounced back. HTH

I think, having some low quality links is also important. . It creates more natural impression.
I think, you should go for some guest posting backlinks. They will help you to do well in search ranking again.

Don't bother removing your backlinks. Just build more backlinks to cover up the bad backlinks %

I don't think it's important to have low QUALITY links, low PR links maybe. What's the difference?

A poorly written article on a big spam article directory= Low quality link
A contextual link in a blog post from a blog in my niche that has a good reputation even though the page where the link is is PR0= Low PR link but still not a bad link because

    a) looks natural
    b) not on a spam site
    c) could drive traffic

Don't point low quality, spammy links at any site that you care about. That's what tiers are for

Related: There is a lot of noise lately about link profile dilution, really that's achieved easily by varying anchor texts, not getting all your links through the same method and getting the occasional no follow (happens naturally don't look for them!) But nobody should be out building crappy links to offset their link profile because they have "too many good links" that's just crazy talk. All those link dilution "specialists" are going to eat me alive but they are selling the same crappy links that they were pre-Penguin they just changed the packaging.

you don't have to remove all of your backlinks as some of them are good to your site. You just have to know the difference between manipulative and organic links. Stay away from paid links and posting links to unrelated niche. Also, spammed backlinks are usually coming from directory sites and article submission sites.

First of all, you should follow Google Webmaster Tool, this way you would know exact problem. And when you have clear understanding of which links should be removed then you can use Disavow tool as well.

You should build your backlinks thinking long term even if it takes more time to rank on google to do it manually than by automated softwares/fiver gigs/etc.

Google algorithms are not stupid, if you play with facility, you will pay sooner or later...and the result is exactly as you know it will be!

The best way now is to try to find some forums and blogs based on your niche and to do a good work manually...Try also Yahoo answers, doc sharing websites, Squidoo, Hubpages, Social Bookmarking etc...Try to diversify and to do it slowly/manually. You need also to diversify your anchors(use 10-15% of exact keywords, the rest you can mix with some "click here" or "check it out" etc)

The key is to do it in a natural way without keyword stuffing.

Another good way to avoid footprint when you build your links is to use some proxies or a software like HMA

      Hope this help

Don't bother removing your REAL backlinks.

Also make sure your are not removing your affiliates sending you traffic and business via an affiliate link(not direct linking).
Check what is the URL looks like, not the "anchor text" !

Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as a "bad backlink" (maybe ones coming from warez, porn sites).

You said you lost your ranking on a google algo update. I'd have to say that some of your msot powerful backlinks got deindexed or lost juice, thus decreasing the authority of your ranked page.

It is essential to keep track of your backlinks, so when you drop in ranking, you see how many of them you lost and start replacing them.

It is very easy once you understand this, and you will laugh at all the myths out there

Deleting bad links can take a huge amount of time. Better to dilute the bad links by building more quality natural links. Make sure to vary your anchor text and target several keywords (like the variations). Build links gradually and continue building to keep the link velocity.
