Anyone got a simple linkbuilding strategy?

I'm looking for something simple that can be replicated to build a few links to each page of a new site I'm making, preferably for no cost.

I've never really taken linkbuilding seriously in the past, which is why I don't have a strategy already.

If you could share your whitehat strategies in here (nothing that will get my Adsense account banned), that would be cool.

Don't look for very simple. It will lead you towards spamming. Acquiring good quality backlinks is tough.
That link will help you for sure.

create a google alert for the keyword you like, and start being involved in your field.
Also create a good content and video's and make sure your link is in there.

There is no such thing as "white hat link building" If you build links, you are at best grey hat.

That said, you can create pyramids using Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo.com, Hubpages, Wordpress.com, Tumblr etc. These work GREAT if you actually put some effort into them. If you build them in 5 minutes and wait for traffic, you may wait a while.

But if you try, and put some effort in they can not only send traffic your way, but they can become a resource later. Don't underestimate the power of 2.0 sites, and don't let anybody tell you they "don't work" without testing for yourself.

    You may be surprised.

Agreed. Any form of "manual" link building is automatically not white hat. Google would love for us to "create great content and wait for the traffic." Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

To the OP - My advice is to stick with lower competition (but buyer oriented) keywords. At least in the beginning. You won't need to do much link building to rank.

And don't forget about trying to drive traffic. Posting in niche-related forums, commenting on niche-related blogs, Yahoo Answers (or similar sites), etc. Don't rely 100% on the SE's for traffic.

      Sorry, I got a little off-track!

Add fresh and relevant content to your site and update frequently. If the website looks active, there’s a huge possibility that it will be crawled regularly. Build backlinks from different authority sites – web2.0, article directory, wiki (contextual links from mix of do-follow and no-follow sites), video, document sharing, etc. Build links slowly and keep building to maintain the link velocity.

I would say article marketing, being active on forums which are related to the content of the website you are building links for, link sales. Earlier I tried to build a greater number of lower quality links, but with time I realized that a small number of quality links can get you much better results, even if you have to invest a certain amount of money in them.

    Simple plan for SEO domination:

    1. Find the sites ranking for your target keywords.
    2. Get the same links they do + 1 more
    3. Buy a Bentley

Don't try getting 1000 backlinks. Instead try to get one high quality one. I think guest posting is the best way.

Also, if you are still interested, you can buy some fieverrs to get you press releases and so on.
