Hello All,

I've been using WordPress for a while now and I've had great SEO results over the time I've had it.

I saw a comment flaming Joomla the other day for SEO purposes and I've recently been creating a Joomla website. Is a Joomla website anymore difficult to rank?

Are there any downsides to using Joomla?

  • Paul,

No there are no direct downsides to having a Joomla site in terms of SEO and they are not harder to rank. In the eyes of a search engine spider, there is no difference as long as they are able to crawl content. You will find that there are more supportive documents, plugins, themes and other tools available for wordpress than for Joomla but other than that there is no difference.
    Best,

  • Joomla was not particularly SEO friendly out of the box but it has improved significantly in 2.5 but to get the most out you would still need to get a SEO extension like sh404SEF.

Joomla is a CMS just like Wordpress, the only thing that matters is the finished/live HTML.

The point when your site is overhauled customarily, WP is a brilliant decision since this impacts page rank significantly. In the event that your site is fairly static, Joomla is an improved alternative since once its page rank is secured, it remains very stable. Incase your site a WordPress site and is not updated on a regular basis then it has a tendency to drop in ranking drastically after a while. So you have to suspect this before you settle on your decision.
