The Well Rounded SEO - A Survey

I thought it would be useful for those starting out to see the educational investments that SEOs here have made along the road to success. Every journey is different, but I think a lot more goes into the making of an SEO than what most people would assume off the bat.

SEOs, friends, here are a few questions for you; your answers might help up-and-coming SEOs map out their own path to success! Of course you can answer as many or few of these as you'd like. This post is to disperse some preconceptions floating around that SEO/Adsense/PPC forum is full of cowboys, that these areas of IM are somehow inferior to other niches of IM. (Ever get that vibe from the rest of the WF? Me too)

1) How did you get into Internet Marketing? What did you do before that?

2) What are some personality traits that you think are important to possess in IM/SEO? What qualities of your own personality have helped/hindered you?

3) What is your area of expertise?

4) What kind of education was necessary to do what you do? Did you have formal/traditional training? Did you have a mentor? Are you self-taught?

5) What are some specific skills or programs that you learned along the way that have helped you get where you are today? Do you know any server side languages for example?

6) What advice would you give to someone that wants to be where you are now? Your best advice for someone starting out!

    I'm bored, so I thought I would give a try...

    1) How did you get into Internet Marketing? What did you do before that?

    Started IM ~2 years ago. I was out of money and since I was spending a lot of time on internet I thought it would be a wise to know more about it.... After a while I figured out what is Adsense and Affiliate marketing... After few months I managed to set up my first site and few months later I sold it on flippa for $1500. This was the start of my journey. Before that I was selling illegal stuff to my schoolmates and friends

    2) What are some personality traits that you think are important to possess in IM/SEO? What qualities of your own personality have helped/hindered you?

    Search, research, test, fail, search, research, test, fail etc... You must be able to fail and then come back even stronger. You have to be a fighter But the most important thing is to take action and read countless hours of useful information... and ofcourse = take lot of action.

    3) What is your area of expertise?

    I can't really call my self as an expert, but I think I know more about SEO and PPC than Average Joe.

    4) What kind of education was necessary to do what you do? Did you have formal/traditional training? Did you have a mentor? Are you self-taught?

    Totally self-taught. I haven't bought any e-courses, books, nada.... All the knowledge have been gained through Google search, forums and by testing n' failing/succeeding.

    5) What are some specific skills or programs that you learned along the way that have helped you get where you are today? Do you know any server side languages for example?

    I know a bit HTML and CSS, but not much. All my sites are built on Wordpress which is extremely easy to edit, design and manage.

    6) What advice would you give to someone that wants to be where you are now? Your best advice for someone starting out!

    My advice is to you is start blogging asap. Get a Domain and just take action. BUT... don't give up. Take 1 project at time and only abandon it when you really feel it's not worth it. I have learned that when you are trying to do 100 things at one time you will fail with all of them. Don't try to be a PPC and SEO expert, a professional product launcher, e-book writer and webdesigner at the same time. Take a niche/approach/strategy and stick to it until you succeed.

    Furthermore, when you are planning to rank sites then learn the basics of SEO. Don't just outsource. Otherwise you will end up spending money on total BS/CRAP services.
