I have a PR4 site - what should I do?

I have a PR 4 site which was a dropped domain. It has maintained its pagerank for over 1.5 years and all it has is a homepage with some generic copy. Does anyone have any ideas about how I could best monetize this site? It does not have any content at all. The domain name has the words "Play" and "Show" within it so I would thinking something to do with videos.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
B

A magic site, funny video site, dog training site show them how to play with the proper training...

Probably a lot of ideas you can come up with with play and show in the domain these are just a few ideas off the top of my head.

I suggest you see what used to be on it by entering the domain name into the Wayback machine [http://archive.org/web/web.php], rebuild the old site as best you can, then sell contextual links from the homepage.

I totally agree. Try to come up with something similar. However, if you don't have time to manage the site and put up some content you could also sell the site for $200 - easy and quick money for starting something else.

Good idea but I would like the site changed to something else. Was thinking online gambling site and earn money from links, adsense and affiliate links. Traffic would be through Google. What do you think?

      Thanks

I'm thinking what traffic? Having a PR4 is not any magic traffic thing. In fact the site may very well not be a PR4 anymore. I have seen pages that take over 6-9 months to be updated on the PR toolbar even though in that time they have no links.

Second if there has been no content there is probably little traffic. Its not 100% but in those occasions where links stay in place with no content its because they are old links on pages no one reads anymore. Too much traffic increases the odds one of the readers will report to the webmaster the link leads to nothing pertinent.

Finally you seem to think that its PR status makes it valuable for any niche you choose but unless you use it to place links to other sites the anchor text coming to that domain gives it strong boost for THOSE keywords not anything you decide to change the site too.

Thanks Mike, I do appreciate the comments however I am not a newbie to SEO. I have been in SEO for 3 years and work on huge sites. One site has over 4 million page impressions a day up from 2.5M a year ago. What I am a newbie at is monetizing websites.

The traffic would have to be achived from homepage optimisation for niche keywords chosen and link building. Long tail traffic would come from keyword optimised articles (sold as links, buyer writes two articles and gets link in one).

It was originally a PR5 but dropped to PR4 last Feb and still is 4.

I less concerned about the SEO but more about what the best way to make money from the site.

          Cheers

If thats the case then you could use any domain. highlighting that its a PR4 means that you thought its PR4 status meant something in terms of ranking or traffic. It doesn't if you change the niche and keywords to something entirely different than what it has the links for. People HAVE told you the best way to use the site - to link to other sites or do something in the niche for which the anchor text would help.

PR is updated every three months ( allegedly) So of course it still is showing the same PR from last February. Unless there has been one today then all PR for every page has remained the same. The drop shows the site is losing links. Why would you have the site sitting there with no content for so long?

Thats a good idea, going for something which makes the existing anchor text relevant. I will do some research on that. Thanks!

Sorry Mike, I meant its been PR4 since Feb 2012. I only refer to pagerank to highlight that it does have authoritive backlinks to it. So therefore any content on the site would rank easier and quicker than a PR1. Correct me if I am wrong?

I got the site in January 2012 when it was PR5. I 301'd all existing URLs to the homepage. There was an PR update in Feb 2012 and it dropped to 4 and its been 4 ever since. I just havent had time to do anything with it. But now I would like to as I am getting alot more free time.

It depends on what do you expect from this site... Do you want to earn from it? Do you just want to make it popular enough among your friends... Or you just would like to have it there... Choose the theme that you write content easy and with a desire...

i have a question? how much can you sell a site with that page rank for? Or how much would people pay to place their links on your site if it was relevant?

You could also set the site up as a blog and sell post/links on the site, with a steady PR 4 you could easily cash in selling post with links

Find some related keywords using Google Adwords keyword tool, the keyword should be low competitive, you can optimize that keyword, it would take less time if the domain name is not penalized.
