Short video or long, that is the question?

I have often been told to go to Animoto to make a video and the free is fine. Yet I was just told two days ago that Google will not rank a video if it is under 50 seconds. I don't know where this information comes from, and i have not heard it before. So I wanted to check if anyone can confirm that?

Personally I wouldn't watch a video under 50 secs, but prefer to watch 5-10 min videos over 30-50 min videos due to data reasons, if my individual input helps.

Google has not mentioned anywhere about this. Many of the funny videos will within 1Min. They rank well in the Search Engines. Even ads will be around 30Sec, they too rank well. Length of the video doesn't matter. Stay cool and proceed.

Actually, using the "free" Animoto videos for commercial purposes is against the terms of service. So it's not fine.

I've heard that Youtube (and perhaps by extension Google) prefers longer videos (at least 1:30), but I don't have a source. Regardless, putting up a bunch of crappy 30-second Animoto videos is just asking for Youtube account deletion.

Make videos worth watching. Aim for at least one minute of useful information or entertaining content.

Apparently whoever your getting your video info. from is wrong, here's a 0:01 video on Google SERPs.

Long live the 0:01 cat video that provides value.

I have not seen anywhere that Google has set any limitation of min 50 sec for video.

I also have not seen any such thing mentioned by Google but have read a blog where it is written that - "The most popular videos on YouTube have an average length of 3 minutes. This means that the ideal length is between 2 and 4 minutes."

That is terrible information. I have plenty of videos under 50 seconds ranking well in Google. And plenty that are longer than 50 seconds as well.
