Something I noticed different with Google searches today

I started noticing yesterday, but even more today. It appears Google has figured an algorythm to get rid of so many of the listings on the first couple pages that were affiliates using using blogspot, tumblr and churn and burn sites.

Instead, it is a lot more of the big brand websites and older, more known sites.

An example is main keyword "hand vacuum" - by the time you got down to searching for a hand vacuum by brand name and model, the first couple of pages were the churn and burn sites. Not so now. Saw just a couple on second page.

    It does seem they've been tackling the Web 2.0 sites with spammy links lately. However, the churn and burn YouTube videos still seem to be going strong.

    Google is always on the move, have to wait and watch what the whole changes is all about. Seems like they are doing it right, giving value to original and old authority sites rather than spam web 2.0 and blogs.

    I'm sure they're devaluing links like crazy. Since placing low quality links is pretty much the whole grab bag of tricks for the average affiliate, expect many to fall.

      Many times forums and larger authority sites had the information that people wanted rather than the "link based" EMD sites that were sprinkled over the first page.

      Google basically had to do two things to make sure relevant content was on the first page: shift their algo slightly to give more weight to those forums and authority sites and devalue links from particular places those link based EMD (and some were non-EMD) sites got their links from.

      I first saw this around the penguin update and more around the end of the year. Then you saw a whole bunch of WSO's about authority sites and more threads against or complaining about thin affiliate sites not ranking lol.

      If you follow the whines and complaints in the SEO section in some way you can trace it back to small algo changes big G does. This is also partly due to the fact that most people will try to do as much "trend" based SEO as they can for momentary faster results rather than stick to more fundamental SEO that takes a little more work to do, but pays off greater long term.
