I get about 4-5 SEO calls a day and this is by far the most asked questions. Curious to hear some replies.

What do you say, when a client asks:

"how long will it take to get to page 1?"

"when will I see rankings??"

"can you guarantee me the #1 spot?"

I would say "For what phrase?"

If a client wanted to number one for "super awesome accounting firm in Tampa" I could get him there in under a week. If he wanted to be #1 for "accounting" I'd thank him for his time and tell him I only work with people who are serious.

For easy local keywords the answer would be something like:

"about 2-3 months and you'll see the first ranking improvements between 1 and 8 weeks, we don't guarantee the #1 spot but I can guarantee page 1 for that set of keywords"
