Exact Date of Penguin Update?

Does anyone have anything a bit more specific than there will be an update within the next few weeks?

There were reports of an update a few days ago, although Google denied it, and ever since then traffic has been slightly down.

Now seeing scraped content, very thin content sites, many Slideshare posts etc ranking higher than before.

As this is a major update and I'm confident that I haven't done anything wrong, I'm hoping Google's algo has grown more sophisticated.

I think this is the first time that I'm actually looking forward to an update.

So... anyone have anything more specific?

As a side-note, I think I already know the answer to this, but is there a downside to not having touched a site for 2-3 months?

I don't think Google denied the update on the 7th. They just didn't give details about it. Based on that update, I am no longer the believer that continued updates are going to be positive...even for sites with superb content. Seems that authority sites benefited from the May 7th update, or at least in my case. My homepage ended up getting outranked by twitter feeds, yahoo answers, etc. roughly 85 percent of the sites that now appear before mine in search query are non related...way to go Google!

Anyway, don't think Google is going to give information when the next update will happen.

Umm... Wouldn't authority sites be considered sites with superb content?

Idk, do you call yahoo answers content great content, or a page on twitter with just links great content?

I know, but if I tell you, you would need to give me all your websites.

But seriously, do you think someone here knows? and if the person knows, do you think the person would tell everyone??

      Who cares, seriously.

I never understood the whole algo update thingy and still dont. If you have a good product, great service, arnt spamming and have good content then thats all you need to worry about.

Exactly. The people who are most worried about updates are the Blackhaters.

This year's update is coming in next a few weeks. And this is what Matt Cutts has to say, "we do expect to roll out Penguin 2.0 (next generation of Penguin) sometime in the next few weeks."

      The way I see it:

      A couple of weeks = 2

      A few weeks = 3-5

      Several weeks = 5-7

So you don't have an exact day, but you have a rough range of time.

I doubt even Google knows the exact date for any major algo. updates, they most likely have target dates but just like anything in the business world those are targets/goals to aim for (not set in stone).

Matt hasn't givent the exact date of the update but it usually releases within a few days from when he usually tweets about it. https://twitter.com/mattcutts/status/332917182990258176

Not really, if a site doesn't need updating then it doesn't need updating. New content is always good, if it's quality...
