Yes it's close to that time of year again, that only comes 4 times. SEO Experts will be partying like it's 1999 or popping a bottle scotch to drink their sorrows away.

It's the Goolge Page Rank Update

The last update was on Febaury 4, 2013.

The next one is to occur between June 27 and July 7. So that means we have less than 2 months left. Hopefully this is a wake-up call, if you dropped the ball with some your sites. You have enough time to start making quality blog post and building good backlinks.

What are you hoping your pr will update to? (Be Realistic)

Anyone who cares about their PageRank is wasting their life energy. It doesn't mean anything anymore and the toolbar rank you see is still lagged far behind what it actually is at the Google datacenter.

I call for a ban on anyone who makes a thread about PageRank in this day and age =/

Lol maybe so but I still would take a pr 6 site over a page rank 3 site anyday :p

Everything being equal that is content etc..

PR still absolutely plays a role. Maybe not as big of a role as some thing. But it definitely has importance.

It is still fruitful to those who sell links on their sites, accept paid guest posts, banner ads etc..

Did you even read the thread?

If I'm doing my job right. My PR will always be heading in the right direction. But TBH I don't pay that much attention to it.

Why would it occur between those dates specifically and not tomorrow or next tuesday?

The blog that you referenced with these dates seemed to have just pulled them out of thin air.

I wouldn't say that PageRank is completely irrelevant. It is still very useful for roughly evaluating the value of backlinks

I almost didn't reply to this because of the ridiculousness of it. Of course page rank still matters. Easy to rank for terms when you have high pr, and authority sites point to your site. Also I find it funny that you promote link building but don't care about PR.

The update only happens 4 times a year. So that means around every 4 months Google does a update. If you know the last time Google did a update you can predict when the next update will be.

Yeah for the last couple of years or so they have been 4 times a year. This would make it every 3 months

Using this logic the update would be this month as the last one was in february as you mentioned.

Sorry your right, I'm sick to today. So I know what I was thinking.

          It's every 3 months.

Perfect Example are high pr blogs, also with huge social exposure. I'm mainly in the gaming niche, so I will give you a example of that. There is this gaming blog/community, called ign.com. Every-time they make a post with a certain keyword in it, they usually rank on top, with Google news. Then after a while if it's a really popular post with not allot of competition it will rank on top of Google for the keyword/keyphrase.

Look at PR as a matter of how Google trust your site. The more they trust you, the more likely you will rank for your intended keyword.

Yeah the math thing was a joke

But the PR thing question was not. Can you show me some kind of publication Google has made about any of what you said as being true?

            This one.

And without adding new variables to your statement like these. Which have nothing to do with having high PR.

Any site can have these or not and still have a high PR or low PR

I'm strictly referring to your first statement about having high PR makes it easier to rank for search terms.

Of course page rank still matters. Easy to rank for terms when you have high pr, and authority sites point to your site.

Given that Google update PR every day and factor that into the search results every day, why is this even important?

All this is about is the unimportant meaningless export of a historical snapshot of that internal data to the toolbar to amuse people who do care. Google do NOT update it every 4 months; they update it every day. All they do is export that useless snapshot of internal PR to the toolbar every 4 or so months.

I'm more bothered about the monthly amount of conversions then about a Pagerank. It is always interesting to read how worried some people are about those things. In my opinion most people loose track due that.

Some people don't understand the importance of pagerank and backlink. When a site build backlink, it's pagerank increases and the site traffic increases also. the interesting thing to note here is that if you have a well optimized site with pagerank 0 and the owner is in uk, the site will rank 1st page on google.co.uk and rank probably 20 page on google.in. But once that site hit pagerank google will start showing in first 10 on other google domains, which increases the site traffic

There is no need to worry about this. Like everyone is saying, the focus is on your site. Continue to create good content and build backlinks using white hat techniques only.

Speaking of pr and backlinks, with google's disavow feature, obviously they put a pretty good of amount importance on quality backlinks versus non quality backlinks. What methods do you suggest for evaluating if a backlink is worth keeping or should be requested for removal? PR would be one way I guess but is there anything else like checking a blacklist or something?

It seems that the PR update has been delayed. May half to wait until August.
