question about iframes

there are so many topics about iframes and how they are and how they are not "eligible" to help with seo rankings.
i guess at this point, i am just wanting to know how everyone deals with them. i have a client that is a realtor and there are lots of iframes used on the site. if i cant make them seo friendly, i guess that is fine but again... i just want to know some opinions.

    Look at the Google Cache (text version) of the realtors web page & you'll see the page is blank, unless they have other text on the page, outside of the iframe. Blank pages aren't optimized for anything.

      i'm optimizing the entire website so i'm definitely making sure there are no pages with just iframes!

      i've just read so many contradicting articles about if they are ignored by search engines or if they are hurting your seo or ways to optimize them so they help with seo... it was just getting overwhelming!

        How can you be an seo specialist?

        Iframes are only a problem if you are relying on content
        in the iframe. Google may try and correlate it with the
        parent webpage, but that's an iffy proposition.

        Problem is, nothing is perfect. I've seen all sorts of iframe, scripts,
        flash, etc. getting some text or code as being seen as on the
        parent page.

        It can muddle things up. So, use iframes as they were intended for.

        They were not intended to show YOUR content, and why show
        another site's content on yours? Amazon and youtube, notwithstanding.

        I imagine a real estate agent would want to use iframes to put
        multiple listings gleaned from other sites.

        But I would question why on earth a real estate agent would be
        worried about seo.

          the iframes are being used to show information that is on a subdomain of their site. the listings are being fed in from an idx provider who set up the subdomain.
          don't ask me why it is set up that way, i'm still trying to make sense of it all.
