I am Not an SEO expert and you don't need an seo expert to tell you that links placed on blog comments are NOT QUALITY links. Maybe if you comment on related sites you might get traffic. Speaking of traffic, since your on the gaming niche, have you tried joining gaming forums and contribute to that community with your sig pointing to your site. I just think it might help you getting targeted traffic....

Yes... But such backlinks are REQUIRED in order to make a good website (a mixture of dofollow and nofollow backlinks). It is NOT a normal SEO strategy, if you have a website with 100 HIGH QUALITY backlinks and 5 LOW quality backlinks... 50% - 50% looks much better (and also Google will NOT blacklist your website for strange activity... ONLY HIGH PR and HIGH QUALITY backlinks!)

I don't recommend such way to gain high quality back links. One important factor for quality back link is relevancy.

You should do blog commenting ONLY on relevant sites, related to your niche. Other than that, it`s not quality, so it`s no use doing it.

I am a bit confused when I hear these sort of statements. For instance, I was able to find a PR 6 website with Dofollow comments in my niche. Many of the blog posts turn into PR 3+ over time. After just posting several informative and thoughtful comments on this one blog helped boost me through the SERPs. The PR is high, its dofollow, and there are very few OBL.

Google look for the category related to your site. The mentioned category in the <head></head> part of the page's source code.
It is good if you submit in related websites/ blogs or google may not consider it as a backlink.

Hi I want to rank a site on 1st page in 2 months. It's current position is 134 now on .com and competition level is .59. I tried sbm but neither a site is accepting the url. It shows invalid on all sbms. I tried article, forums and and press release. It's about travel. But ranking is not increasing. Rest of my sites are ranking extremely good by these process. Please let me know what are my options? A help will be much appreciated.

If you're a grey hat link builder then its ok to get a blog comment from a non-related gaming website.

If you're one of those "white hat" link builder then it's 100% Not Ok.

& to your question, yes Google still count a blog comment from a non-relevant niche from your website.

There are 2 important things in blog commenting.

Comments should posted on site in the same niche.

Comments should have dofollow links if you are looking to get the SEO benefits.

I agree and disagree with the comments on this post. If there is an article about gaming on the Huffington Post - add a comment. Its not a website that is related to gaming but it is an article related to gaming and its a DO-FOLLOW site. It will pass some authority and help your site and may even bring traffic. I have direct experience with that - its not theory.

Even if you do find a relevant blog post that you can comment on they may be no-follow links. So it won't pass authority per-se - but you should have a link profile with both no-follow and do-follow links.

Bottom line do whats natural. Would you comment on an article that has nothing to do with gaming and subject matter that you don't care about - probably not. But maybe its a subject that you have a passion for (but not about gaming) - so you would add a comment because its of interest and adds value to the conversation (use your website url if it allows) and it will potentially pass some authority.

In one word " one Good related backlink is more than 100 non related backlinks"
try to be as near as possible to your site type, make relations with other bloggers and webmasters about games, make a Facebook page about your website, it will helps get connections with related people.

It depends on the PageRank of the page that you leave the comment on. In my humble opinion, relevance is overrated.

I would like to add something to the dicussion here. I used an paid SEO service, in which, they performed a backlink analysis of my website. The results: they suggested that some of my relevant links were hurting my site and that sites with high authority are more relevant and help in the SERPS. So, what I am understanding is, no matter the niche of the site. It is the domain authority - and or perhaps PR - that counts. This is what they told me. I don't know if anyone here would agree?

High authority based on what? Moz's Domain Authority? Waste of time tracking that.

If they were a good SEO service, they would have told you that pretty much all of the blog comments were a waste of time regardless relevance, authority, or anything else.

To answer your question, blog comments are in no way "quality" backlinks. Google isn't going to pay it much attention so relevancy isn't that big of a deal.

On another note, it sounds like your spamming sites to build backlinks. This is NOT a good idea. You could end up finding yourself another victim of a Google algo change.

Since it's a gaming website, take advantage of its "interactiveness." There's a lot of gaming related blogs out there.

Use this search string: inurl:blog "keyword" comment OR reply

Although PageRank is one of the key factors why you should put a link in a website, also consider how the users engage in a website.
