Hi,

I just want to clarify a point. I am researching some new keywords and have found some good looking options when looking at the traffic and there is low number of competing pages for exact match.

Im now analysing the quality of the sites in the top positions. Should I be doing this under exact match search query or broad?

thanks

There is no such thing as exact match search query or broad when you are entering something into the Google search bar. Exact and broad has to do with search data collected by Google.

You should just enter in the search term. No quotes. Rarely does anybody search anything with quotes.

Either way though, you shouldn't be looking at the number or results to base the level of competition off of. Every search has the same number of competitors. 5. That's it. Top 5 are all that matter.

      Hi Mike,

I appreciate your reply. I was looking at competing pages by putting the term in quotes to get an idea of how many I was up against. Is this a worthless exercise?

        Extremely worthless.

All that matters is if you can beat the top ones. #6 through 9,398,324,873 don't matter.

Definitely under broad match which is the default one (without the quotes).

You don't even have to perform " " search because this search alone is pretty much useless.

You only need to check first 10 positions (the first page).

Better yet, if you are hardcore and aiming at the top ...then check only top 3 or top 5. They are usually pretty stable and all that matters anyway.
