I'm using micrositemasters.com and serpfox.com. I believe that you can track up to 10 keywords for free on each of them.

The difference is that MicrositeMasters also track your rankings on Bing and Yahoo, but they track "only" the first 100 results. On the other hand, Serpfox support only Google, but they track the top 500 results per keyword.

Also, Serpfox check your position 4 times a day I think, while MicrositeMasters do that once a day, which is often enough if you ask me.

You can try "cuterank" or "ranktracker" both are really good for checking the rankings!

This thing blows all the others away, because you can put multiple keywords into it. About 5% of the time it is not running and will just hang, but if you need to check a bunch of keywords, it's totally the way to go. Amazing that it's free actually:

  Getting your exact search engine ranking is not very easy but there are a number of tools that can help. Market Samurai is one of them and Rank Tracker is another. Manual checking is the best way to check ranking but if you’d rather use a tool, these two are the most accurate.

Rank Tracker has been the best bet for me so far, and they have a free version (it has some limitations though, for instance one can’t save rankings history). I would recommend you use one which does not run from your desktop but rather it is a web based application so that the service runs the rank checkings through their proxies.

I have had great success with hubshout. I discovered the link through stumbleupon and it will give great reports like number of searches, your position and other keywords you might not even know you rank for. Plus it's free!

I'm also using cuterank but unfortunately the results are not that close to manual checking. that's why I switched to authority labs.. the discrepancy is not that high compare to other rank tools..
