Hi Guys,

First of all I'm new to The Warrior Forums, and I'm very excited to be here!

Now, Does anyone here use Odesk to outsource their link building? I'm sure this has been discussed before; but I have figured out several select strategies to pick the best contractor.

Here's my top 10 pieces of advice for hiring an odesk contractor

  1. Always select a contractor with 1000+ hours or a new contractor (One will be experienced and one will moldable and motivated to make you happy.
  2. Always make the contractor recite a certain term in their cover letter. This will allow you to quickly sort through the ones who do not read what your post says, and just volunteer because they are desperate for work
  3. Always create a detailed job description for the contractor. I usually include visuals and exact documenations down to the T. I haev found that many contractors will just do things their way and tell you what you want to hear. This is NOT the right answer.
  4. Never hire a contractor until you have interviews him on Skype.
  5. Always create a test of your own to independently test him.
  6. Always double check their work via the time tracker. If you don't, they will never know what they are doing wrong and what you should do to help them.
  7. Always update your team's strategy to adapt to the Google algorithm changes.
  8. Never take their word for anything they say until you see it
  9. Never hire one of their "Friends" who is new to odesk but has "The same skills that they have" New odeskers are desperate for referrals and they have a referral pay structure in place.
  10. Always make them aware that if they perform well, a long term relationship will ensue. This will keep them motivated.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I feel like contractors are willing to learn, but they will never be as good at link building as someone who knows the culture, language and industry. I am just questioning whether I should hire $10/hr interns to do the work, or pay SEO contractors $2-3 an hour....I'm a little concerned about my team and this new Penguin update, so we'll see what happens.

Any feedback is appreciated!
