Time on site and squeeze page

I have a site that gets some search traffic, but it could do a lot better. The thing is that I have a lot of links on it pointing to a squeeze page that's on another domain, where I want visitors to opt in and join my newsletter.

The good news is that many of them click on those links and they opt in on the squeeze page. The bad news is that since I send all this traffic to another domain, the average time a visitor spends on the initial site is very low.

So I am wondering: is this affecting my ranking and is there anything I can do about this?

Your advice is highly appreciated,

Eduard

  • Eduard,

There isn’t any definitive evidence (that I have found anyway) showing that Google uses time on site as a factor for ranking a web page. I know that click through rates have been a factor but as far as what a visitor does once they are off Google, who knows?

If you want people to spend more time there, you could always add more content to the page.

Maybe you can find more answers here,

Also, why not just get the squeeze page to rank better and then you can have people visit that in search?

    Hope that helps,

Time on site is an important factor, Though Google never stated anywhere that it uses the time on site parameter to modify rankings.. but if you think logically, It ought to affect.

We all know Google takes Social Signals into consideration and considers it a visitor's vote. Then the amount of time he stays on the site will of course matter as well, Why would you think a webpage is useful if a visitor leaves it in 3 seconds of visiting? So I guess improve the time on site by adding a video overview of the site like a tour of the site or something similar.

To improve your situation, You can either use the optin box on your homepage instead of a new domain or put up a new page on the existing domain with the optin box and link to it from the homepage.
