Your idea is interesting, however it has some problems - the two main ones are:

1. This is a Link Scheme - exactly what Google doesn't want (but that won't bother some here)

2. Few people are going to expose good websites in this forum.

A better alternative, which is one of the techniques I use, is to co-operate with other websites in your niche/market. That way all the links you get are legitimate as they have had genuine editorial approval, and they are highly relevant.

It takes some actual work though, compared to your suggestion, because you have to have good content other sites, who are sometimes competitors, will want to link to, and it takes time to build relationships.

I usually start the ball rolling by sharing their content on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, StumbleUpon etc, and then even publish an article referencing something on their website with a link to it.

The key difference here which makes this approach 'white hat' is that when I'm linking to them or sharing their content, I'm not guaranteed I'll get anything in return - I have to earn reciprocation.
