Okay...I've invented a product and have been working on it for over 6 years. Im to the point where I've spent well over $150k and have exausted all my funds with the exception of a small advertising budget. I have the manufacturer making them now....the patent is final and I have been awarded....my Trademark is filed....all is lined up for a great new product launch. My dilema is this...In the past Ive launched products in Niche markets and have usually used Trade Publications for my advertising....and have done fairly well....Ive always sized up PPC advertising but would never pull the trigger on it because of too many uncertainties....Ive heard horror stories and Ive heard success stories...Im to the point where I cant take a financial risk on putting all my funds into a risky ad campaign.

So, let me pose some questions.

How would you budget your $20k in advertising? I will tell you that $20k is not really enough for as big as I need it to be BUT i will start with it and when my ad campagn works I will feel comfortable enough to locate extra funds to advertise more knowing it works. Would you do all PPC? Would you do all Trade Pubs? what would you do? $20k doesnt go far in trade pubs and the number of potential customers is small compared to the internet obviously.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

It would help to know the niche because there might be alternative traffic sources (depending on the niche).

Is it a low priced item, or high priced item your selling?

BTW, you mention a $20K budget around here & the wolves will be all over you like white on rice, on a paper plate, in a snow storm.

Do you have any knowledge of PPC? don't jump straight into PPC if you don't know the ropes.

Its a tool for the concrete construction industry. retails in the $350 to $450 range.

I have never done anything in PPC....was looking to maybe hire someone to manage it for us.(not sure though) Im familiar with how it works but so was someone else I knew and he lost his butt!....also know of a guy local who is making more money than he knows what to do with using PPC for his niche.

Have you considered approaching your local hardware stores (Home Depot, Lowes etc) to distribute for you.
Creating instructional videos highlighting the products benefits etc and posting to YouTube.
If it saves time, money or is revolutionary in some way you may let your local TV station know, most of them have segments highlighting local innovation etc.

    Just a few thoughts...

I would try to approach retailers in your industry to try to carry it for you.

I don't see how advertising a product you just invented would do well in PPC since of course nobody knows about it.

Twitter ads, Facebook ads and Google ads all may work for you. I am no expert though, but those are some of the bigger players in PPC. Good luck! Your drive and scale are admirable!

Yep just last week I was Tweeting and updating my FB status, when a great bunch of ads caught my eye. I've now got my hands on 2 Combine Harvesters, a Massey Ferguson Tractor, and 4x 28 Tonne Cement Trucks.

I couldnt believe my luck, as I had been searching Twitter and FB for weeks looking for good deals on some Industrial machinery.

Great motivational story OP. I hope it all goes well for you. I would definitely advise investing much small amounts into anything PPC first, just to get your dick wet and see if its profitable. But lots more good suggestions above might suit you better. Good luck with it man.

Hey great replies and thaks for the good wishes.

The product does have people searching for it online....it has a slew of keywords. They just dont know I exsist yet. It would be like someone looking for a hammer and I offer a new one but better.....actually thats a bad example! Mine fills a gap and offers a product in an area of weakness.....currently the market has little offerings to my niche that happens to be very large. In the past I have used trade pubs and have done fairly good but I suspect PPC has more to offer.....hopefully. Would you guys advise me using a service for this? or take it on myself? What are typical prices for services....I had one company mention 15% of ad $$. This is my most critical part of all Ive been through because of the lack of funds at this point. If I can prove PPC works for me I wont have a funding issue....I will if it doesnt make sense. Thanks!
