IMO niche forums trump any social network considering traffic is pre-qualified by signing up for a niche forum they're interested in, with social sites like Twitter or FB, traffic doesn't have to do anything other than have a social account.

Yeah I fully agree with you. Thats why SN traffic dont convert good. However I was thinking about niche forums but just one thing making me worried. As google nowadays dont like forum backlinks so if I use 4 or 5 niche forums for direct traffic I might end up with a Spammy Backlink notice from google? Even if I dont use anchor texts for the backlinks?

I've been doing this for 6 years (same niche forum links) & never had a problem with Google SERPs or even Google/Adsense. Google's pretty smart about relevant links/traffic, IMO there's no possible way Google can say a same niche backlink is spammy.

The folks you have to be careful with is not spamming a forum or a forum Mod will usually shut you down (on the best niche forums), that's easily fixed by creating useful comments on the niche forums & having a legit website, not something like a squeeze page, MFA, Amazon doorway page, etc...

Just utilizing social media, and sticking your face where your desired targets hangout is a good way too. Join a couple forums in your niche and start being active in that online community, share insightful posts and threads that will build you a reputation, eventually, people will start reading your posts thinking, hey, so and so knows their stuff, before you know it you are getting a rush of traffic from your signature, or a link you posted.

Getting traffic with facebook is a good idea but facebook tends to hide the updates, so start building your list with facebook and then you are safe. At the same time your group will grow too. I have been building fan pages for my herbs site and the users remain active only for some days. If I send them updates via email they always come back to me. If you can't afford a premium one like aweber go for mailchimp or use amazon sendy that costs just a $1 for 10k mails

For me, forums work good, but you have to use only quality forums for better result, quality and high traffic forum participation is good for getting targeted visitors to your website.

I think SEO, SMO and advertising all are best way to get traffic on website. But there SEO is time taking job and SMO , Advertisement are for instant result.

But well worth the effort, over the longer term.

I wonder why no one mentioned Guest posts on this thread so far. Write very well researched (with a minimum 30-40 hour research going in it) articles (2200+ words) on a popular niche blogs.

You get a lot of immediate traffic, you build authority (as a brand and in SEs).

It depends upon the time and resources, If you want instant traffic then you must go for PPC or Paid sources of getting traffic, otherwise SEO is the best choice to get traffic for long time, but it is time taking process.

You can get some great traffic via stumbleupon but sometimes the quality isn't great (eg: high bounce rates)

I personally prefer SEO for a long-term... Otherwise, I could use Twitter to drive hundreds of visitors per day, but it tooks some hours of work to do this and it only lasts a few days, while SEO could help you get visitors for a few years!

Of course, SEO gives long term traffic and benefit there is no doubt to it. But there is lots of ups-downs in SEO thats why people look for alternative methods for getting visitors to their sites, also traffics would help in SEO too.

hello friend, here are proven tips for quick traffic generation

(1) SMO ie. social media like twitter facebook etc.
(2) free traffic tools like http://traffic-generator.ezmlm.org/
(3) forum posting, bookmarking, from good sites like bizsugar, digg, delicious etc
(4) search engines are best for relevant traffic.

SEO
Youtube
pdf/doc submissions

The more you seed - the more traffic you get.

Of course Facebook and other social medias like Twitter, pinterest drive good traffic.

Other than that, getting links from relevant forums and other high traffic areas - may be helpful on getting referral traffic

Anyhow, for me, traffic from Google is always great and more

- I have some fun blogs, and I didn't do much SEO, but content is lengthy and target long tail keywords, getting good traffic...

Important thing of Search engines' traffic is, that traffic can be easily can be converted into new business - Because, if people really want something, they will search on search engines and mostly ready to buy the thing that they are searching.... such thing may be a bit lack in terms of referral traffic (but of course there are exceptional cases too)
