SEO Keyword Competition Checker

Hi Guys

Can anybody recommend a good (free) or realy cheap competition checker when searching keywords.

I can do it manually but it would be really handy to have something that pre-checks the more obvious one's to save me time.

Any recommendations? I'm wanting to identify articles to add my quite large site that will generate traffic regardless of how much SEO is done to the particular page.
