Best use of parked domains

I started a thread about putting ads on a site to monetize parked domains. I should have styled it as "What is the best use of a parked domain?"

Right or wrong, I have bought dozens of them over the years. Some are 2-3 years old. What I'd really like to do is create small sites for each. And what I'd like to know is what is the word count needed to get some SERP for these keyword phrase domains in a very narrow niche. Actually, what I'd like to know is a general strategy. Do this, do that. Hoping I could create sites quickly, as there are a bunch of them.

The other thing is hosting. This would probably take as much time as writing some content. Could I just use shared hosting on one hosting account? I'm sure it isn't ideal but I did this with a few domains a few years ago and it actually seemed to work. (I didn't notice a penalty from them being on a shared hosting account.)

What strategy to use? And should I post a link on each to my main money site? Or vary the links to my various other sites? Or none at all, just create a bit of keyword-rich content?

Thanks much for help on this forum, this SEO stuff drives me nuts, it's so controversial!
