Spamming Competitors

So I'm just curious about something. Just speaking hypothetically out loud..

If spamming your site with crap backlinks using software supposedly get's your site de-indexed or messes up your rankings. Couldn't you just spam the hell out of your competitors sites to kill their rankings?

Just to be clear::: I'm not planning to do this, or have any intentions on doing it to any competitors sites, I'm just curious since Google's algorithm is anti spam backlinks now.

      Now with the peguin update doing negative seo will actually help your competition. The only way that I know that negative seo is working is with sape and HOBl links.
      Your saying if I were to spam my competitors sites I'd help them?? :rolleyes:

        Maybe short term. But if the site you're spamming has history and lots of good links it may never hurt them.

          Ok that makes sense. So your saying Google would pick up on it if a site had a good history of relevant and good links and then all of sudden had 50k crap links pointed at it a week later

            Just makes it harder to tank a site when it has good links and is an authority. So the older (longer it has been an authority) and the more good links it has the more resistant to spam they are.

      I'm sure there are. Was just kind of wondering about just blasting spam at them and if it would have any effect.

    I think, Google should have any strong solution for this, otherwise the quality work would go and spam work would come into SERP.

      I feel like people should focus on making their own sites good rather than purposely tanking other people's good sites... But that's just my ethical 2 cents.

      And yeah, I know that OP isn't planning to do this... just saying.
