What makes a good link?

Say you have an acquaintance who has a site that is in your niche (and links are hard to come by) and somehow you convince him to link to your site. Does it matter where he puts the link or what the anchor words are? Does it have to be within copy or can he just stick it anywhere and it's good?

Hi, It's a good doubt. Well people linking their websites link to other web site or directory to build some backlinks. If you place your links on Footer, btw it's not a good backlinks. If you used a backlink on his/her post there should be a good authority links to your website.

First of all, you should create content within your site, if your site doesn't have content and you are building links only then you easily be caught.

This is the thing to understand.

Also, you have to build natural links, you have to vary anchor text for better result.

It is better to get a link within the content of the site rather than on footer or sidebar. The link within content (specially middle of the content) works well than others. When it comes to anchor text, make it more natural, always do not try to use your target keyword as anchor text. Think in a reader's vie and place the link accordingly. Hope it helps...

Contextual, Relevant, high PR, Do-follow with some sort of traffic... But it can also be just a link in the resource section (still good)

How to make him/her link to you? Produce awesome content and he will add the link without a doubt.

I believe people like to make this issue more complicated than it needs to be.

If a link is good enough to be indexed by Google, its a good link.
