Is golfclubs.com considered an emd for golf as well as golf clubs?

Also, do the search engines give more weight to the domain golf.com than golfclubs.com for the keyword golf?

Thanks.

    1. golfclubs.com is the EMD for Golf Clubs NOT for Golf

    2. yes, because that example is an EMD so gets the weight.

    EDM for "golf clubs".

Note, having an EDM or non EMD doesn't get you penalty or ranking, your off-site SEO is what matters.

The search engine do not give weight to any domain irrespective of whatever it is called, it's interactions and off-site activities is what matters..

So there is no ranking benefit of having an EMD? Are you sure or is that just your opinion?

Clearly his opinion as nobody can say for sure what makes things rank and what doesn't aside from maybe Sergey and Larry (and as some tend to believe Matt Cutts). I would have to disagree though. I buy EMDs on a regular basis and I find that they are pretty easy for me to rank.

Sure you do need an effective backlink strategy to make it work and perhaps more importantly to avoid screwing it up. But, if you look at the top searches for specific products and keywords in most niches there are almost always EMDs on the first page, especially dot coms.

          Thanks.

If EMD's do help with ranking, it would stand to reason that even if its not an EMD, having the keyword in the domain would also be helpful such as golfclubs.com when trying to rank for golf.

I still find that EMDs and PMDs work fine.

I think one reason the search engines like them is because it's a signal for what a site's about which you aren't likely to lie about.

If the domain is golfclubs.com then the site is hardly likely to be about basket balls.

It's as about as honest a signal that a site can provide which it has 100% control over.

For the keyword "golf, the domain name golf.com is good and you would get benefit from search engine too.

Having it in the URL may or may not have a little boost as a "quality signal" (in which case Google has over 200 quality signal indicators), but at minimum, you'll have the words bolded in the URL.

EMD is an advantage but not important. Google rank pages, not sites. Results are filtered by relevancy of search keywords matched to the contents of your site. Your rank will not be updated based on EMD but after google bot find contents frequency.
