WordPress - Static home page vs latest posts for SEO

I am going to start a new WordPress blog.

I target a medium competition long tail keyword (Domain has a that keyword).

So, my question is, what is the best for SEO.

Static home page or latest posts home page?

    If you create a static page for home page then you would be able to do on-page optimization like keyword density, highlighting some important keywords and other on-page related stuffs...

    Then use each post to target 1-2 specific keywords and do your SEO towards those pages.

    It would be best to do a static homepage, just make sure you get a plugin that will create and continually update a XML sitemap for you. then submit your url to google webmaster tools and your all set!
