Hey Folks,

Quick adwords question.

Let's say I have a competitor "ACME SHOES"

Can I set up an adwords campaign that looks for exact matched searches [ACME SHOES] and shows an Adwords ad for [MY COMPANIES SHOES]

Are there laws against this?

Thanks!

    Why would there be laws?

Google is not a law agency.

They may have some rules, but you probably would not be able to bid
high enough on some brand names to even get in.

And if you really are not selling ipads, it would be moot to even bid
on ipad. You would never get past bestbuy, apple, amazon, walmart, etc.

And anyone that says you cannot bid, is sadly mistaken.

Some companies have rules that you cannot use PPC using their
brands as affiliates. Obviously, apple has no problem with amazon,
bestbuy, walmart, ebay, etc. bidding on ipad. Well they might, but
it's not hurting them in the least.

Okay, not exactly your scenario, but it just goes to show that you can
bid on any words google thinks your ad should be shown for. That's where
you may get in a bind. If you offer athletic shoes other than nike, you
certainly could bid on nike shoes, so long as google thinks a click on your
ad would take a searcher to what they want.

If you bid on acme shoes, and there is nothing on your site about acme
shoes, who knows if google approves that. But you could bid on shoes
    and compete with acme shoes.
