In Webmaster tools select the targeting country as UK. It will help Google to recognize your targeting country. Also submit your website URL in UK based directories and business listings.

keep optimizing till site doesn't improve on UK search engine as you are targeting UK country. Do directory submission on local listing, UK based directory, UK base bookmarking, blog or UK base forum.

google looks for certain signals that let it attribute a website to a specific location. I don't recall any study that shows the hierarchy of those signals, but my guess would be:

    - a regional domain (co.uk)
    - hosting in target country
    - geotarget set in google webmaster tools (this often looks like an attempt to manipulate geotargeting. so, google may not trust you on that)

Besides, it's good if you have some backlinks from co.uk domains. But I wouldn't worry about that too much, as long as backlinks are from sites that are in good English, you should be fine.

By the way, you can check where on Google UK users see your site by using advanced settings in rank tracker.

    Hope this helps.
