Hey there,

Over the time, I've seen people talking about the authority of .edu sites and what a link from them can mean...

Here it is...

Simply Google:

Code:
site:edu "vBulletin®"
I suggest you install SeoQuake - extension for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers in order to filter out the low PR ones.

You can add your link by first signing up and then editing your profile to add your link as your homepage.

  • Unfortunately these will be nearly all "NoFollow" links which means you will not benefit from any Trustrank being passed to your site.

You can find dofollow forums it just takes a bit of hunting. I don't think this tip is really any good though to be honest. Any idiot can find forums on google without this tip.

I'm gonna hit those using an edu IP.

    That should make some friends.

I think nofollow is going to be an extinct term ..Google does indexes nofollow links..Better we keep that aspect aside and go ahead with our link building efforts

I agree with dddougal, it's not exactly a new trick but can get the job done, can even try inurl:edu "vBulletin®"

    I tried both, from Google.co.uk I see around 47,000+ results for site:edu "vBulletin®" and 934,000+ for inurl:edu "vBulletin®"

Also, nofollow links still count in Yahoo right? Ain't nothin' wrong with a little Yahoo love folks! lol

    Hi Guys

I posted this a while ago on my blog Traffic Secrets 101 - All the traffic secrets you need! hope it helps.

A little techniques I want to share with you for getting great back links from a .gov or .edu site to really give your site a boost, I add one or two of these a day and it makes a ton of difference.

Just type the link into Google (change .edu for .gov for more links)

site:.edu inurl:blog "comment" -"you must be logged in" -"posting closed" -"comment closed" "your keywords"

This saves a massive amount of time in sorting through the blogs that let you have 'link juice' back to your site.

    Kind regards

    John

Its a pretty old trick and there are many variations of the query that can be used to find similar .edu sites and blogs. The main problem (as already metioned) is that you would be very lucky to find a site that is do-follow. Good luck though!

Here's another tip. If your business can actual hold an event (such as a concert, workshop, or lecture) you can get listed on the calendar section of county and city .gov sites. I've done this several times and the links are do follow.
