Issues with Link Building

Hello all,

I have a classified ads site, and i had been talking with forum admins of the same niche so that i could buy a space on they forum to advertise my ads.

That's what i've been doing for the last 6 or so months. Every day i put there a few topics with links to classified ads on my site.

However, on webmaster tools i can't see those links. Is this normal? Google is ignoring them?

Thanks in advance, let me know if there is anything confused with the post, my english is not the best one.

EDIT: I've checked the links and they are not "nofollow"

Webmaster tools is kind a poor thing for checking "live" links.

Try http://ahrefs.com or Majestic SEO : Backlink Checker & Site Explorer

    Hope that helps

Use Open Site Exploper, SEO MOZ, Alexa, Google, Yahoo for finding the back links. There are many other tools available.

Ok, i bought a subscription on Ahrefs site and checked all the backlinks.
In fact, i've been doing some link building on forums and the majority of the links don't appear.

What may be causing the problem?

Also, could anyone give me some tips on how and where to do the link building.
As my opponents are in the game for a few years they are well recnogized by the community, and so, in some cases the users do the link building for them.

I am in conversation with some bloggers to buy some articles with links with specific keywords. But when i look to my competition it seems that google preffers quantity instead of quality. One of my competitor has more than 700k links when i only have around 800 lol.

      Thanks!

Thanks seekdefo, but tell me one thing, i'm kind of ignorant on this chapter in particular. Since site is not in english but in portuguese does google see any value in submitting articles to english-language sites i n english?

I mean, the article won't "fit" a lot of the internet guys as it's only for a specific country. Hope you understand what i mean. And thank you very much for your answer. I will look at both the video and the link you kindly supplied.
