I ranked page 1 for a certain key word and have been building my blog around this term.

But then another guy beat me to it and now he has a blogger that is capitalizing on my key word.

mykeyword.blogspot.com

I still have #1 but what happens if i change my blog name to something closer to my blog theme? Im scared i might lose #1 status. I dont want that...

You will toss a monkey wrench into the mix.

But no matter. If he does better things than you, it won't
    matter.

Why not just strive to work harder instead of going for
    fairy dust?

  • Mguy,

I agree with Paul, why not work harder to outrank him? Changing your blog name is probably going to provide a marginal advantage at best. Also, being at number one doesn’t necessarily mean you will receive more clicks.

I agree being number does not mean conversion. It means your number one on that time of day for that day but only if you are incognito. LOL

Being number one is fine but I would concentrate on conversions and if your not getting them at number one then why? Site design, description...something might be wrong.

I have many number ones in search and found that description helps but HDATA helps more.....like a photo in authorship, or snippets like stars, or something.....focus on standing out in the search line itself. Think of a line up of criminals that all look the same. You are trying to remember what one mugged you.....now look at particulars things you remember that made them stand out.

The primary goal is stand out now not just be on first page! Standing out on a second page even means more now than not standing out on first page. Honestly that is the facts jack.

ok so I am killing my competitor with my key word.

but I still want to change my URL to reflect my key word.

What will happen when I change my URL? will I lose my traffic?

What are the solutions? Purchase a domain and implement redirections?.. There are sites that are organically linked to me.

Don't mess with the ranked page, build a stronger SERP position by trying to rank a 2nd internal page for the same [exact] keyword the 1st page is already ranking for. Trust me on this, aim to rank that 2nd internal page.

Build your 2nd internal web page targeting the same keyword, then on the already ranked web page add a hyperlink pointing back to the new/2nd internal page.

It's possible to rank 2/3 web pages from a single domain for the [exact] same keyword. Even If you don't rank two individual web pages on the same domain for that one keyword, you'll still make your existing ranked page even stronger in the SERPs.

Make sure to not spam out your pages with the keyword. Simply having the keyword in the 2nd page title, the same keyword mentioned as plain text in the 2nd page content & the keyword anchor-text link on the 1st page (already) ranked pointing to the 2nd page will go a long way. When you already have a web page ranked, ranking additional internal pages for the same/similar keywords gets a lot easier.

BTW, messing with already ranked page URL is dangerous as far as SEO goes. Even a 301 redirect doesn't guarantee Google won't bury the already ranked page in the SERPs. Don't mess with the URL.

I often see people who title a page for what they want it to rank for but not how it should be titled to rank well, causing the page to rank bad in serps.

Sometimes if you notice a page doesn’t rank well, yet you know it was a great writing, you can simply change the title to better match the content.

I often evaluate how my pages are currently ranking, if I feel it could rank better I’ll change the title. I just did this to a page last week. The page originally ranked on 5th page for most relevant keyword phrase, after I changed the title it was 5th down from first page...right under the theguardian, cnn, usatoday and wikipedia. So just changing the title caused a massive jump.

With that said, I’ve changed page titles before and they ranked worse.

You might try exporting the blog and then importing those files to another subdomain of blogger. Then you can change whatever you want on the newly imported content without editing or losing your original content.

That's the way that I understand it anyway??? You might give it a shot before putting your search engine rank on the line. It may take a while to get the new blog to rank well, but it may be worth it.

Just a thought. I've never attempted an export or an import on blogger, but I did just read this article. https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/97416?hl=en. It might work in your situation?

changing the name can be harmful for sure, it can effect the traffic to your site to decrease.
way I see it it's a battle you can win with keyword competition.

Lesson learned: changing title can adversely affect your ranking.

It is best to get this done early. I've lost my 1st page rank bc of the advise on that site. It should have a caveat or something.

Don't do it if you are ranked well. This will make you fall.

A long time ago I made the mistake of changing Titles, Content ETC on my ranking page after it was number 1, in an effort to make it "even better" Paulgl said it best, "You will toss a monkey wrench into the mix." If it ain't broke don't fix it. There are so many websites out there, there is no such thing as a real keyword that has no "competition" or other sites. Maybe they are not competing but if you are ranked #1, just relax.

Will you change your blog name for every competitor keyword?

It was a tough pill to swallow and I may never get my first position back.

Another thing to consider is to take advise with a grain of salt. If it is one your top rankers, always consult.

Which brings me to the next question: is there a warriorforum equivalent for blogs?
